The local &#8220;Tontons Surfeurs&#8221; (surfing pioneers) had their curiosity piqued when two Californians, Dick Zanuck and Peter Viertel, caught the first waves in French history there in 1956. From that moment on, these pioneers acted as ambassadors for this surprising new sport, developing the first plastic surfboards and establishing the first surf school right by the famous C\u00f4te des Basques. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.martysurfdelivery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/surf-spot-biarritz-cote-des-basques-martysurfdelivery1-800x800.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-380\" style=\"width:583px;height:583px\" width=\"583\" height=\"583\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now much more famous, it draws numerous visitors every year thanks to its idyllic setting; indeed, major travel websites have repeatedly voted it the most beautiful beach in France. Highly popular among longboarders, its beach break is one of the most sought-after in Biarritz; the spot is best suited for swells of 1 to 2 meters, from low tide to mid-tide (spanning the three hours before and after low tide). Be wary of the incoming tide so you don\u2019t get caught off guard; at high tide, waves crash against the rocks, making exiting the water quite difficult. If you surf on a day with a north wind, stay close to the wall at the northern end of the spot for shelter.   <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.martysurfdelivery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/cote-des-basques-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/msd26.jeremybornerand.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/cote-des-basques-1.jpeg 1000w, https:\/\/msd26.jeremybornerand.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/cote-des-basques-1-300x150.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/msd26.jeremybornerand.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/cote-des-basques-1-768x384.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/msd26.jeremybornerand.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/cote-des-basques-1-500x250.jpeg 500w, https:\/\/msd26.jeremybornerand.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/cote-des-basques-1-600x300.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not far from the town center\u2014easy to reach on foot if you are staying in central Biarritz\u2014but much less convenient by car; parking nearby is very difficult, so you will likely have to park in the lot at the top of the famous &#8220;100 steps.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will find some great spots to eat near the beach; if you want to enjoy local wines and a platter of cured ham with friends, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lartnoa.com\/\">Artnoa<\/a>, or\u2014for lovers of beautiful views and sunsets\u2014you\u2019ll find an unbeatable setting at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/etxolabibi\/\">Etxola Bibi<\/a> bar on the C\u00f4te des Basques.
