Just a stone’s throw from the town center and facing the majestic Hôtel du Palais lies Biarritz’s Grande Plage. Sheltered from the wind by surrounding cliffs, it is a favorite among visitors thanks to its accessibility. However, be aware that easy access often goes hand in hand with large crowds—especially in July and August, when drivers may struggle to find a parking spot, even when paying for one of the available lots (one located at the foot of the casino, the other at the far northern end of the beach).

This beach break works best at mid-tide (or low tide for beginners) and is favored by easterly winds; it can offer some great surprises with swell heights ranging from 1 to 3.5 meters. It is one of the few spots in France with night lighting during the summer—calling all night surfing enthusiasts!

It’s also a great backup spot when the wind is from the west and the swell is messy.

If you go early in the morning during the summer, you can witness the meeting of two worlds: the revelers who have kept the party going until dawn, and the surfers intent on making the most of the sunrise and the lack of crowds.

Its proximity to the town center makes dining out easy, with something to suit every taste!
