Set out to explore the surf spots along the Basque Coast with a local surfer. Marty will let you know about the best spots in the area based on the tides, swell, and wind. You’ll never miss another great session on the Coast.
Surf in Biarritz
Surfing was born in Biarritz in 1956 when Californian filmmaker Peter Viertel arrived on the beach at “Côte des Basques” with his surfboard. Recognized from that point on as the birthplace of surfing, Biarritz would quickly become its capital in France; renowned for its variety of spots (beach breaks, reef breaks, point breaks) and for its culture.
Surfing along the Basque Coast requires a good understanding of the spots, the swell, the wind, and the tides; in fact, it often takes several years of experience to understand how it all works.
Marty offers to share his knowledge and experience with you so you don’t miss out on a great surfing session in Biarritz and along the Basque Coast.
What does the surf guide include?
Before planning the day, you can chat with Marty via text or email to discuss your expectations for your surfing session and your skill level. What kind of wave do you prefer to surf? What surfboard do you want to use?
Once we’ve gone over all these questions together, Marty will suggest a date and time for the appointment. On the day of the tour, he’ll pick you up at your hotel, Airbnb, or rental, and then you’ll check out different spots where Marty will explain how they work.
Once you’ve decided on a spot together, you’ll go surfing for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
On the way back, Marty will take the opportunity to share his top picks for restaurants, bars, and things to do when there aren’t any waves. You can even choose to eat at a small local restaurant (surfing + lunch package).
After that, the surf spots along the Basque-Landes Coast will hold no secrets for you, and you’ll have everything you need to go surfing on your own or with your friends during your next trip to Biarritz.
