SURF SPOT IN SAINT-JEAN-DE-LUZ: LAFITENIA
It is in Saint-Jean-de-Luz that you will find the Lafitenia surf spot—a reliable alternative when other breaks aren’t working. Some surfers appreciate it because it never gets overwhelmed by the crowd, while others love its peaceful atmosphere; far from the busy spots of Biarritz, at Lafitenia you are alone with fellow surfers, surrounded by unspoiled nature.
Its reef break sculpts an incredible right-hander, rideable in swell ranging from 1 to 3.5 meters and best suited to East or Southeast winds. However, its remote location doesn’t guarantee tranquility; the spot gets crowded in summer, so surfers have to share the waves effectively. Shortboarders have little choice but to stay close to the inside, while longboarders can target the larger sets—which sometimes feature a staggered peak—allowing everyone to have fun without getting in each other’s way. Although it is a great spot, it is not the right place for beginners; you need solid board control to avoid ending up on the rocks.

The beach is easily accessible by car; there are two free parking lots nearby.
The spot is known for its friendly atmosphere, both in the water and out; you can grab a drink at the *chiringuito* beach bar, where surfers often gather before and after their sessions.
