The Parlementia surf spot lies on the border between Bidart and Guéthary. Its name dates back to the time when Guéthary gained its independence—transitioning from a mere district of Bidart to a municipality in its own right—as Parlementia was the site where the two towns held council and discussed administrative matters. Today, it is one of the coast’s most famous spots, frequently featured in surf magazines for its incredibly long right-hand wave. It is known for its easy accessibility, as surfers can paddle out from the harbor without having to cross the breaking surf zone. There is no more reliable spot along the entire coast; because Parlementia breaks over a rocky bottom, it rarely closes out due to heavy swell. The spot works in wave heights ranging from 1 to 5 meters, ideally with an East or South-East wind. It is a spot for big-wave conditions: when the beach breaks max out, surfers head to “Parle”—a reliable and friendly local favorite.

At Parlementia, there is something for everyone regardless of the waves: longboarders and gun riders can head out back to catch the sets, while shortboarders can find hollower waves closer to shore. If you are accompanied by non-surfers, there is no need to worry; the waves don’t break right on the shoreline, so they can enjoy a peaceful swim.
